The Halifax Police Department provides courteous and professional law
enforcement and public safety services to residents, businesses and visitors
in the Town of Halifax, twenty-four hours a day.
We keep our community safe with proactive law enforcement of the town
ordinances and state criminal and traffic codes. We employ community-
oriented policing principles: We want our citizens involved in our law
enforcement.
We care about our citizens: We respond not only to traditional calls for
police services, but also to the emergency medical calls of those we
protect. We work closely with the Halifax Fire Department and the Halifax
County Rescue Squad, and with other law enforcement agencies, to meet our
common goals and to address fully the emergency needs of our citizens.

POLICE SUPERVISOR
The Town of Halifax is seeking a progressive Police Supervisor who is a proven professional with extensive law enforcement experience, to include at least two (2) years as a full-time first line supervisor in an agency of at least five (5) full-time officers.
The successful applicant will possess the leadership and communications skills to effectively interact with the public, civic groups, other officers, administrative staff and elected officials as well as model organizational values which reflect a strong commitment to public service, continuous improvement, and cultural diversity.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the
specific requirements listed above. Competitive salary ($33,000 to $36,000), based on qualifications and excellent benefits including retirement package are offered.
Minimum Requirements:
Vision must be correctable to 20/20 with glasses, contact lenses, or surgery.
A High School Diploma or GED certificate.
Veterans must have an Honorable Discharge.
Must be a United States citizen and possess a valid US Driver's License.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Candidates must have a minimum of three years full-time sworn law enforcement experience, including at least two year of experience as a Police Supervisor.
Candidates must be employed as a full-time Law Enforcement Officer currently or within the previous 12 months and have a valid Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Training Certification.
The above requirements are not all-inclusive.
Applicant is Ineligible if:
Law enforcement certification has been suspended or revoked.
Possesses limited law enforcement experience, which may include, but is not limited to: reserve police officers, part-time police officers, corrections officers, and auxiliary officers.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform the Essential Job Functions:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a computer, telephone, firearms, vehicles and other standard police equipment. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull climb, balance, walk, jump, run and traverse uneven terrain. Must be physically fit and able to defend ones self from attack or physical assault. Must be able to restrain, lift and/or carry adults of varying weights.
