for the South Main Street Marketplace in Downtown Halifax

February 23 and 24, 2011 at the Halifax County STEM Center

The Town of Halifax will host a community planning and design workshop on February 23 and 24 in the cafeteria of the Halifax County STEM Center, 315 South Main Street (former Craddock Terry Shoe Factory) to develop a master plan for the east side of South Main Street, generally south of Cemetery Street and north of the STEM Center. The study area consists of property acquired by the Town as part of its revitalization efforts and offers opportunities for additional infill buildings on underutilized land.

Hill Studio planners and designers will work with town officials and other community stakeholders over these two days to understand business market and expansion needs, and identify feasible community development opportunities which link compatible business, educational and civic activities that support the integrity of the historic County Seat. The goals of the Master Plan are to guide future development and public/private investment in the project area and to recruit new/expanded business investment in downtown Halifax.

Citizens of Halifax and interested individuals and businesses are invited to participate in this workshop to offer insight and comments. Please come and be a part of this visionary planning effort! For more information, contact Carl Espy, Town Manager, at 476‐2343.
