PLEASE PARDON THE PROGRESS WITH OUR ONGOING DOWNTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION!

VDOT contractors are scheduled to mobilize onsite in downtown Halifax the week of Monday March 16, 2026, weather permitting, to begin the installation of pedestrian operated flashing signals (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons – “RRFBs”) at two existing crosswalks. (see diagrams at the bottom of this article)

Prior to that, Jerry Epps Landscape Company will remove two crepe myrtle trees in the landscape areas next to where the RRFB poles will be installed as a VDOT requirement for improved line of sight on the east side of South Main Street (northbound).

The two RRFB poles installed on the west side of South Main Street (southbound) will be located on sidewalk near the comer of Edmunds Boulevard and the entry next to Halifax Town Hall/Halifax Police Department respectively.

According to VDOT, the construction may take up to 21 business days to complete, so pedestrians and motorists should exercise caution when passing through these areas.

Once the RRFB pole installation and concrete repair work are completed, the town will apply for Land Use Permit (LUP) approval from VDOT to restore landscaping in the crepe myrtle removal areas.
