Town of Halifax Downtown Revitalization Project Update 10-05-12

The current utility relocation phase of the Halifax Downtown Revitalization Project which involved Comcast Cable and Dominion Virginia Power removing overhead wires and poles along Main Street from Houston Street to Cemetery Street has been completed.

According to Dominion VA Power, their aerial contractor, C.W. Wright completed the pole removal downtown in addition to the sidewalk repair on the east side of South Main Street.  Better Cable Systems' crews finished rerouting aerail Halifax County fiber optic lines with the final splicing and old aerial line removal having taken place.  Previously, Comcast Cable's contractor, Fiber Technologies, Inc., completed relocating the aerial facilities on Cemetery Street and Houston Street, including the service lines to the back of the Main Street storefront properties.  The most recent phase of utility construction involving Comcast and Dominion Power began on March 27, 2012.  The first phase of the utility relocation which involved Centurylink (Embarq) removing overhead wires along Main Street from the Halifax County War Memorial to Cemetery Street and rerouting lines through existing underground conduit was completed in August 2009.  Installation of telecommunication facilities on the Town of Halifax Water Tank also occurred at that time.

The Town of Halifax is working with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to replace existing sign poles in the downtown project area along with being issued a permit for restricted parking sign kits to be installed on the decorative streetlight poles.  Motorists, business owners, customers, employees and those attending court services are being reminded of the 2-Hour On Street Parking limitation effective throughout Main Street between 8:00 am-5:00 pm Monday through Friday.  Additional notification will be made once the signs are installed.
