    Occupying a site that has been used for court purposes since 1803, the Courthouse holds hundreds of thousands of documents relating to the people and property of Halifax County, Virginia. The court records go back to 1752, when Halifax County was cut off from Lunenburg. Read More

    Photo: Downtown Halifax (Houston) circa 1910 Halifax County was formed from Lunenburg in 1752, and the Town of Halifax has been the county seat since 1777. The courthouse town of Banister, named after the neighboring river, grew around the new courthouse. Called Banister Town during the Civil War, the town became Houston in 1890 to entice a new railroad, and after WWI changed its name to Halifax. Read More

Halifax County Little Theatre presents... CHICAGO the Musical April 21 - May 6 | The Prizery Chicago, the critically acclaimed theatrical phenomenon comes to Halifax County for 11 shows. Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago has everything: a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz. On Exhibit... Parsons-Bruce Art Association welcomes Susan Wilkinson to The Robert F. Cage Art Gallery at The Prizery for a showing of her art now through May 10. FREE admission.    The Halifax County/South Boston Museum is featuring two artist installations. The photography of Tom Williams will be featured through June 10. Watercolor artist Kim Ferguson's exhibit opens this weekend and will run through May 27. 

 

 
On Stage... Halifax County is home to two extraordinary opportunities for live arts. Halifax County Little Theatre and The Prizery bring some of the biggest shows, family favorites, classics, and new and exciting ventures to the stage. Halifax County Little Theatre presents... CHICAGO the Musical With show-stopping numbers, astonishing dancing, and a healthy dose of razzle dazzle, Chicago is a heart-pounding spectacle of everything that makes Broadway great. April 21 - May 6.
