Thank you to those who participated during the two-day BOOMS Tracker Inventory sessions last week! We were fortunate to have great turnout and valuable input starting with the Kick-Off meeting, through the windshield driving tour around town, and property assessment walk-throughs, culminating with the community visioning walking tour downtown Tuesday evening. View photos below.

During Wednesday’s Wrap-Up meeting, Joe Bergstrom presented his draft Report and Christin Jackson summarized the community responses for desired businesses from the night before (download the draft Report). Over the next 60 days Joe will be putting together his final Report which will include a narrative and specific recommendations to promote occupancy and redevelopment downtown based on his data, supported by the community’s aspirations. His individual property assessments will be shared with owners/agents of those buildings as well, following the format addressed in Place + Main’s FAQ (download here); even if a walk-through assessment didn’t occur inside a building, Kristen Bergstrom performed a physical inventory of all properties within the identified historic business district (157 parcels; 115 parcels with buildings), now uploaded into Main Street America’s BOOMS Tracker, so the opportunities to create highest and best uses for those buildings will be available as well.

Again, on behalf of Mayor Gilliam, Halifax Town Council, and all our project partners, thank you for sharing your ideas to continue revitalizing the historic County Seat, creating economic growth and community vibrancy which enhance our small-town character and quality of life!
